The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET Office) has extended its Yellow Alert until 3:30 p.m. today, warning that strong winds and very rough seas will continue across a large part of the country as severe weather persists.
Marine accidents and flooded roads have already been reported in several areas, with emergency services and relevant authorities responding to incidents. The alert now covers the region from Haa Alifu Atoll to Faafu Atoll.
According to the MET Office, sustained winds of 25 to 30 mph are expected, with gusts reaching 50 mph during squalls. Sea conditions are forecast to remain very rough, increasing the risk for vessels operating in the affected region.
Authorities are urging the public to exercise extreme caution when travelling, particularly by sea, and to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rain and strong winds. Motorists are also advised to drive carefully on flooded roads and follow the instructions of emergency responders.
The MET Office has advised seafarers, fishermen, and the public to continue monitoring official weather updates until conditions improve.
