The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET Office) has issued weather alerts across a wide swathe of the country this morning, warning of dangerous sea conditions and strong winds.
A yellow alert is in effect from Haa Alif to Kaafu Atoll from 7:30 AM to 1:30 PM, as winds are expected to surge between 25–30 miles per hour, with gusts reaching up to 50 miles per hour. The MET Office cautions that seas in this region will be very rough, posing serious risks for sea travel and small vessels.
In addition, a white alert has been issued for areas stretching from Alif Alif to Laamu Atoll, also valid until 1:30 PM. Winds in these regions are projected to blow between 19–24 miles per hour, with gusts of up to 45 miles per hour and rough sea conditions.
Today’s national marine forecast also indicates wave heights ranging from five to seven feet, further reinforcing warnings for caution at sea.
Authorities advise fishermen, boat operators, and coastal residents to remain alert and avoid unnecessary travel during the warning periods.
