The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET Office) has warned of worsening weather across much of the country over the weekend, with heavy rain, stronger winds and rough seas expected.
In an update provided to state media PSM News, the MET Office said significant weather disturbances are expected across a large part of the Maldives over the next three days as the Southwest Monsoon continues to influence the country.
A wind convergence over the region is expected to intensify rainfall, with heavy downpours forecast across most parts of the country except the southernmost atolls.
With torrential rain possible within the next 12 hours, the MET Office has urged the public to take precautions against potential flooding. Winds are also expected to strengthen from this afternoon, resulting in rough sea conditions.
Malé recorded the highest rainfall during the past 24 hours at 65.3 mm, followed by B. Dharavandhoo with 55.0 mm, ADh. Maamigili with 54.0 mm, F. Nilandhoo with 51.8 mm, AA. Himandhoo with 49.9 mm and ADh. Mahibadhoo with 47.8 mm.
The MET Office also issued a White Alert for areas between Noonu Atoll and Laamu Atoll from 3:30 am to 9:30 am today.
