The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has announced that banking services will be available for only one day next week due to the extended Eid al-Adha holidays declared by the government.
According to the central bank, services will be provided on Thursday, June 28, from 8:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
This year’s Eid al-Adha falls on June 27, with the government deciding to close state offices throughout next week, including Sunday and Monday, as part of the holiday period.
In a public notice issued today, the MMA said the authority would remain closed from June 24 to June 30 except for the limited operations scheduled for June 28.
The central bank also informed the public that coins and cash would not be issued directly to the public on the day services resume temporarily.
As a result, the MMA urged individuals and businesses to obtain any cash or coin requirements needed for the Eid holidays during the course of this week to avoid inconvenience.
The Eid al-Adha holiday period typically sees increased demand for cash transactions across the Maldives, particularly for shopping, travel and traditional holiday-related spending.
