Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) Deputy Managing Director Ahmed Mubeen and a company delegation have met with members of the HDh. Nolhivaram Island Council to review the progress of development projects currently being carried out on the island.
According to MTCC, discussions during the meeting focused primarily on the status of ongoing projects and provided an opportunity for the company and the council to discuss implementation at the local level.
MTCC did not announce any new projects during the meeting, with the discussions instead centred on works already underway.
Direct engagement between contractors and island councils plays an important role in the implementation of infrastructure projects, particularly in identifying challenges encountered during construction and coordinating works that affect residents and existing island infrastructure.
MTCC is one of the country’s largest state-owned infrastructure and transport companies and carries out development projects across the Maldives, including harbour construction, land reclamation, coastal protection, road development and other civil works.
The company currently maintains an extensive portfolio of projects across the atolls, with senior management regularly meeting councils and local stakeholders to assess progress and coordinate implementation.
Such consultations have become increasingly important as infrastructure development expands across inhabited islands, where projects often need to be carried out alongside existing residential areas, utilities and public facilities.
MTCC has also recently secured a number of new government infrastructure contracts across the country. These include harbour, reclamation and coastal protection projects in several islands, adding to works already under implementation by the company.
The meeting with Nolhivaram Council forms part of MTCC’s engagement with local authorities as it monitors the implementation of its island development projects.
MTCC said the discussions with the council specifically reviewed the current status of ongoing works in Nolhivaram, as the company continues implementation of its projects on the island.
