Male’ Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) has partnered with the Maumoon Foundation to provide a new scholarship opportunity aimed at supporting higher education and developing professional talent in the Maldives.
The agreement, signed this week, will fund a Master’s degree scholarship at the Maldives National University (MNU), creating an opportunity for a Maldivian student to pursue postgraduate studies.
MWSC said the initiative forms part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme and reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to supporting education and human capital development in the country.
The agreement was signed by MWSC Managing Director Hussain Fahmy on behalf of the utility company, while the Maumoon Foundation was represented by its Chairman, Faris Maumoon.
According to MWSC, the scholarship is intended to contribute to the development of skilled professionals and support the advancement of the Maldives’ education sector.
The company noted that investing in higher education remains essential to building a knowledgeable workforce capable of contributing to national development and meeting the growing demands of both the public and private sectors.
The Maumoon Foundation, established by former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, is a non-governmental organisation involved in a range of social, educational and community-based initiatives. Over the years, the foundation has undertaken programmes focused on youth development, social welfare and educational opportunities.
Education continues to be a major area of focus for many corporate social responsibility programmes in the Maldives, with both state-owned enterprises and private companies increasingly investing in scholarships, training opportunities and skills development initiatives.
MWSC has previously supported a variety of community projects through its CSR programme, including initiatives related to education, environmental awareness and public welfare.
Officials said the new partnership with the Maumoon Foundation represents another step toward expanding access to educational opportunities while helping nurture the next generation of professionals.
Further details regarding the scholarship application process and eligibility criteria are expected to be announced by the foundation and MWSC at a later stage.
