Bank of Maldives (BML) has signed a new partnership with the Netball Association of Maldives (NAM), further expanding the bank’s support for sports development and youth talent across the country.
Under the three-year agreement, BML will become the official sponsor of two major netball competitions organized by the association, including the annual interschool tournament, which will be branded as the BML Raajje Junior Netball Championship, and the Junior Championship Tournament.
The partnership aims to strengthen the development of netball in the Maldives while creating more opportunities for young athletes to compete and showcase their talent at a national level.
According to the Netball Association, youth tournaments play a crucial role in identifying and nurturing future players, while also helping to increase participation in the sport among school students throughout the country.
Netball has continued to grow in popularity in the Maldives in recent years, particularly among young women, with schools and local clubs increasingly participating in organized competitions and development programmes.
BML said supporting initiatives that empower young people remains a key part of its corporate social responsibility efforts. Through partnerships with national sports bodies, the bank has sought to contribute to athlete development, grassroots participation and the growth of sports across the Maldives.
The latest agreement adds netball to a growing list of sporting disciplines supported by the country’s largest bank.
BML currently maintains partnerships with several national sporting organizations, including the Football Association of Maldives, Basketball Association of Maldives, Maldives Aquatics Association, Surfing Association of Maldives, Tennis Association of Maldives and the Maldives Olympic Committee.
Over the years, the bank has invested in a range of youth-focused programmes and sporting initiatives aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles, encouraging participation in sports and helping talented athletes reach higher levels of competition.
Officials said the partnership with NAM reflects a shared commitment to developing future generations of athletes and strengthening opportunities for young people across the country.
The sponsorship is expected to provide greater support for school-level and junior competitions, helping the Netball Association continue its efforts to expand the sport and build a stronger pathway for emerging players.
With the agreement now in place, preparations are expected to begin for the next editions of the BML Raajje Junior Netball Championship and the Junior Championship, which will bring together young netball talent from schools and communities throughout the Maldives.
