President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed departed this afternoon on a state visit to Sri Lanka.
The President and First Lady are undertaking this state visit from May 3 to 6, following an invitation from the President of Sri Lanka, Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
During this trip, the President will meet with high-ranking officials of the Sri Lankan government to discuss further strengthening the bilateral relations between the two countries. Additionally, discussions are scheduled regarding education, vocational training, economic cooperation, and administrative governance, as well as exploring new avenues for collaboration in heritage and international forums. Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to enhance cooperation in various sectors are also expected to be signed in the presence of both Presidents.
The President is also scheduled to participate in the Maldives-Sri Lanka Business Forum and meet with the Maldivian community residing in Sri Lanka.
This visit will facilitate discussions on shared priorities and further solidify the close ties between the Maldives and Sri Lanka. It follows the state visit made by Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to the Maldives from July 28 to 30, 2025. This visit also coincides with the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
The Maldives and Sri Lanka officially established diplomatic relations on July 26, 1965.
