By Hussain Shinan Published 3 hours ago

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has conveyed his condolences to Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince and Prime Minister, His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, following a fatal helicopter crash involving Saudi Aramco that claimed multiple lives.

In a message sent to the Saudi leadership, President Muizzu said he received news of the tragic accident with profound sadness.

On behalf of the Government and people of the Maldives, as well as in his personal capacity, the President extended his deepest sympathies to the Crown Prince, the Government of Saudi Arabia and the Saudi people over the loss of life caused by the incident.

He also reaffirmed the Maldives’ solidarity with the Kingdom during this difficult period, emphasizing the close ties shared between the two countries.

“The Maldives stands in unwavering solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia during this time of grief,” the President said in his message.

President Muizzu also expressed sympathy to the families of those who lost their lives in the crash, praying that they be granted strength, patience and comfort as they cope with their loss.

Saudi Aramco, the world’s largest energy company, plays a central role in the Kingdom’s oil and gas industry, with helicopters frequently used to transport personnel to operational sites across the country. Authorities have confirmed that the recent crash resulted in multiple fatalities, although further details regarding the circumstances of the accident are expected to emerge as investigations continue.

The Maldives and Saudi Arabia maintain longstanding diplomatic relations and have cooperated closely in areas including development, infrastructure, education and Islamic affairs. Messages of condolence following major national tragedies have long reflected the close relationship between the two countries.

President Muizzu’s message follows the tradition of expressing support and solidarity with friendly nations affected by disasters and tragic incidents, while offering prayers for the victims and their families.
