President Mohamed Muizzu was accorded a grand red carpet welcome upon his arrival in Sri Lanka, marking the start of his first official state visit to the country since assuming office.
The Maldivian leader arrived at Bandaranaike International Airport on Wednesday afternoon aboard SriLankan Airlines flight UL-116 from Malé. He was accompanied by First Lady Sajidha Mohamed and a delegation of around 20 senior government officials.
Upon arrival, President Muizzu and his delegation were received with full honours by a high-level Sri Lankan delegation led by Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, alongside other senior officials.

The visit is being undertaken at the invitation of Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and is expected to focus on strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
During his stay, President Muizzu is scheduled to hold official talks with President Dissanayake, with discussions likely to cover areas of cooperation across multiple sectors. Several Memoranda of Understanding are also expected to be signed, reflecting efforts to deepen collaboration between the Maldives and Sri Lanka.

The Maldivian delegation is expected to remain in Sri Lanka until early May, concluding the visit after a series of official engagements.
The trip underscores the longstanding ties between the two nations, with the visit marking a key diplomatic engagement early in President Muizzu’s tenure.
