President Mohamed Muizzu on Sunday inspected the ongoing redevelopment works on Boduthakurufaanu Magu, one of the largest infrastructure projects currently underway in the capital.
The visit focused on the North Side Road Development Project, where the President was briefed on construction progress by senior officials of Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).
Accompanying the President during the inspection were MTCC Managing Director DCP (Retd.) Ahmed Saudee, Deputy Managing Director Mohamed Jamsheed, along with senior government and company officials.

The Boduthakurufaanu Magu redevelopment project forms a key part of the government’s efforts to modernize Malé’s road network and improve traffic flow in the congested capital.
The inspection comes as MTCC recently announced that 68 percent of sheet piling works across segments two, three and four of Phase One have now been completed. The company also confirmed that wall capping works are progressing, while utility and drainage infrastructure installations continue simultaneously.

The large-scale redevelopment project includes road widening, asphalt paving, upgraded drainage systems, pedestrian-friendly walkways and coastal protection works designed to improve safety and resilience along the northern waterfront corridor.
Earlier phases of the project included reclamation works near Republic Square to facilitate the expansion of the roadway into a four-lane corridor. Sections between the Local Market, Izzudheen Jetty and the Fish Market have already been completed and opened to the public in stages over recent months.
Awarded to MTCC in April 2025, the project is valued at approximately MVR 144 million and is expected to significantly improve mobility, reduce congestion and strengthen flood resilience in the capital once completed.
