President Dr Mohamed Muizzu met His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, on Monday evening at Lusail Palace to personally convey the condolences of the Government and people of the Maldives following the passing of the late former Amir, His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
Earlier on Monday, President Muizzu travelled to Doha on an official visit to attend the mourning ceremonies being held in honour of the late former Amir.
The meeting was also attended by His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Thani, Deputy Amir of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani, Personal Representative of the Amir, His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Khalifa Al Thani, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Thani, His Excellency Sheikh Jassim bin Khalifa Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, along with several members of the Royal Family, including the sons of the late former Amir.
President Muizzu’s visit underscores the close and longstanding friendship between the Maldives and Qatar, which was further strengthened during the leadership of the late Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
