President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on Sunday received a high-level delegation from Saudi Arabia during a courtesy call at the President’s Office, where both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the longstanding relationship between the two countries.
The visiting delegation was accompanied by the Saudi Arabian Ambassador to the Maldives, Yahya Hassan Al-Qahtani, and met with the President alongside senior officials from the President’s Office.
During the meeting, President Muizzu expressed appreciation for the continued support extended to the Maldives by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
According to the President’s Office, the President thanked the Saudi leadership for its longstanding friendship and assistance towards the Maldives’ socio-economic development, highlighting the close ties that have been maintained between the two countries over the years.
Members of the Saudi delegation, in turn, conveyed their gratitude to the Maldivian government and people for the warm welcome and hospitality extended during their visit.
The meeting concluded with both sides expressing a shared interest in further expanding cooperation and reinforcing the longstanding friendship between the Maldives and Saudi Arabia.
State ministers and senior officials from the President’s Office also attended the discussions.
The Maldives and Saudi Arabia have maintained close diplomatic relations for decades, cooperating across a range of sectors including infrastructure development, Islamic affairs, education, healthcare and economic development. Saudi Arabia has also provided financial assistance and development support for several projects in the Maldives through its development institutions.
