In a landmark move to enhance national healthcare capacity and reduce medical dependence on foreign countries, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has officially inaugurated the Hulhumalé Dialysis Centre — a dedicated facility that promises life-changing treatment for Maldivians battling kidney disease.

The inauguration ceremony, held at the Orange Hiya building in Hulhumalé, commenced with a visual presentation detailing the advanced features of the facility, followed by a personal tour by the President himself. Managed under the Malé City Group of Hospitals, the centre is equipped with 30 dialysis beds — offering a new lifeline to hundreds of patients across the Greater Malé region.
The newly opened centre represents a significant leap in the Muizzu administration’s commitment to strengthening the nation’s healthcare system and ending the era where Maldivians had to travel abroad for vital treatments. President Muizzu has consistently maintained that no citizen should be forced to cross borders for care that should be accessible at home — and today’s opening turns that vision into reality.
“This is not just a building. This is a promise kept to our people,” President Muizzu said during the tour.
The Hulhumalé Dialysis Centre is part of a broader national health infrastructure development drive, with over MVR 400 million currently being invested in healthcare projects across the Maldives. These initiatives are tailored to decentralize services, empower local hospitals, and ensure all Maldivians — regardless of island or income — receive the quality care they deserve.
With this centre now operational, the Muizzu administration continues to deliver on its pledge to build a healthier, self-reliant Maldives — one project at a time.
