President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has pledged that all development commitments made to the Maldivian people will be fulfilled by the second quarter of 2028, while reaffirming his administration’s commitment to strengthening the economy and improving living standards across the country.
Speaking at a People’s National Congress (PNC) gathering in AA. Ukulhas, President Muizzu said his government remains on track to deliver every development promise made to the public through a systematic implementation plan.
“Our plan and programs are being implemented systematically. I assure all beloved citizens that as we move through the remaining months of this year and towards the second quarter of 2028, we will achieve full success in fulfilling our pledges in accordance with this plan,” the President said.
Highlighting progress in Ukulhas, President Muizzu said several projects promised to the island’s residents are already underway. To address housing shortages, he announced that an additional two hectares of land will be added to the existing reclaimed area, creating more space for future housing and development.
Recognising Ukulhas as one of the Maldives’ leading tourism destinations, the President said he recently met with tourism stakeholders on the island to hear their concerns. He noted that shore protection, identified as a key priority, will begin within the next two weeks after the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is completed.
The President said similar development efforts are progressing across the Maldives, with numerous land reclamation, housing and infrastructure projects launched during the past two and a half years. He added that these initiatives are advancing while the government continues efforts to strengthen an economy that faced significant challenges when the administration assumed office.
“My aim is to improve the economic situation while strengthening and expanding the economy, thereby enhancing the living conditions of individuals and empowering youth and women economically,” President Muizzu said.
He added that the administration is focused not only on providing financing opportunities but also on creating broader economic opportunities that enable young people and women to participate more actively in the economy.
President Muizzu explained that the government’s development agenda consists of two categories: nationwide projects implemented across all inhabited islands and island-specific initiatives promised directly to local communities.
During this year’s Independence Day celebrations, the President highlighted the administration’s development record, stating that 590 projects across various sectors have been completed during the first two years and eight months of his government. He contrasted this with 285 projects completed during the same period under the previous MDP administration and 321 projects under the administration before that. He also noted that a further 1,635 development projects are currently underway nationwide.
