President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has described the Maldives National Defence Force as the country’s most formidable and capable institution dedicated to safeguarding national security, as the military marked its 134th anniversary on Tuesday.
In a message shared on social media, the President underscored the critical role of the (MNDF) in protecting the sovereignty and stability of the island nation, emphasizing its unmatched capacity to respond to emerging security challenges.
Highlighting the force’s long-standing legacy, Muizzu said the MNDF’s 134-year history is “etched in gold”, paying tribute to fallen heroes, mujahideen, and generations of servicemen and women who defended the nation during times of crisis. He noted that their sacrifices continue to shape the resilience and unity of the Maldivian people.
The President also conveyed appreciation for the dedication and service of MNDF personnel, extending greetings and well wishes to all members of the force and their families on the milestone anniversary.
The MNDF, established in the late 19th century, remains central to the Maldives’ national security framework, with responsibilities ranging from territorial defence to disaster response and maritime surveillance across the archipelago.
