President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed are set to depart for Saudi Arabia on Monday, April 6, to undertake the holy pilgrimage of Umrah, with the Saudi government extending full hospitality for the visit.
According to official information by President’s Office, all expenses related to the trip will be covered by the Government of the Saudi Arabia, reflecting continued diplomatic goodwill and close ties between the two nations. Arrangements for the visit were finalized as early as February.
The pilgrimage to the holy cities of Mecca and Medina is a significant spiritual journey for Muslims worldwide, often undertaken outside the annual Hajj season. The President’s visit underscores the importance of religious observance alongside state responsibilities.
Maldives and Saudi Arabia share longstanding relations rooted in Islamic solidarity and cooperation across multiple sectors, including development assistance and religious affairs. The visit is also seen as reinforcing these ties at a leadership level.
