President Muizzu unmoved by opposition challenges, says public pledges come first

By Ahmed Ashraf Published 1 hour ago

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has dismissed political rhetoric surrounding the next presidential election, saying his attention remains firmly on delivering the promises made to the Maldivian people.

Speaking on PSM’s “Nation Chat” programme, President Muizzu was asked about remarks from political opponents who have claimed they would challenge and defeat him at the next presidential election.

The President said he does not spend time thinking about such statements and is instead concentrating on fulfilling his administration’s commitments.

“I do not even think about those matters. My focus is on fulfilling the promises I have made. I will move forward with everyone working alongside me, ministers, members of parliament, and the general public,” President Muizzu said.

He expressed confidence that the government would succeed in implementing its pledges with the combined efforts of the administration, lawmakers and the public.

Focus on economy, housing and development

President Muizzu said progress is being made across multiple sectors, with his administration continuing programmes aimed at addressing priorities identified in his manifesto.

These include revitalising the economy, strengthening foreign relations, expanding trade, empowering young people, improving healthcare and advancing social development.

The administration has also placed infrastructure development and resolving the country’s longstanding housing challenges among its major priorities.

Other areas highlighted by the President include strengthening the capabilities and resources of the national defence forces, improving education and healthcare, promoting sustainable economic development, and preserving the Maldives’ national identity.

President Muizzu reiterated that his focus would remain on implementing these commitments rather than engaging in political exchanges over the next election.
