President Muizzu urges elected leaders to serve all citizens, not political interests

By Ahmed Ashraf Published 2 hours ago

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has called on all elected representatives to serve every citizen with fairness and sincerity, regardless of political affiliation, saying public office should be used to advance national interests rather than partisan agendas.

Speaking during the second episode of the “Nation Chat” podcast aired on Public Service Media (PSM) on Thursday night, the President said elected officials have a responsibility to work for the benefit of the entire population once they assume office.

President Muizzu noted that some opposition politicians who win elected positions later engage in actions that obstruct projects and initiatives designed to benefit the public. He stressed that the country’s progress depends on moving beyond political obstruction and embracing a shared commitment to national development.

He said meaningful progress can only be achieved when political leaders act with sincerity and place the interests of the Maldives above partisan considerations.

During the programme, the President also addressed opposition allegations surrounding the Government’s “Maldives 2.0” initiative. He outlined the Administration’s policies and strategic measures aimed at accelerating the country’s digital economy, describing the initiative as part of a broader vision to modernise the Maldives and drive long-term national development.
