President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed arrived in AA. Ukulhas today for an official visit, during which the President will inspect the progress of government development projects, meet with the Island Council, plant trees under the government’s Five Million Trees Campaign, and engage with members of the local community.

The President and First Lady were warmly welcomed at the harbour by a large number of residents and visiting delegates upon their arrival.

As part of the visit, President Muizzu will also officiate the SIDS-SAI Symposium and deliver the keynote address at the special ceremony held today.

The three-day symposium, which began yesterday, is jointly organised by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) and the Auditor General’s Office of the Maldives. The event has brought together 80 delegates representing the supreme audit institutions of Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

The symposium aims to strengthen the capacity of Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) to conduct audits that monitor and evaluate progress towards achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Today’s programme includes discussions on the role of audit institutions in supporting climate change mitigation efforts, alongside sessions focused on the digitalisation of public administration and governance systems.
