President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that government development projects across the Maldives are set to accelerate in the coming months, revealing that a total of 2,645 projects are being planned, implemented, or prepared to fulfill the administration’s commitments.
Speaking at a ceremony in Dh. Meedhoo celebrating the People’s National Congress (PNC) securing full control of the island council, President Muizzu acknowledged that the pace of some government projects had slowed in recent months due to external challenges, including rising fuel prices linked to international conflicts and difficulties in importing construction materials.

The President said these obstacles are now being addressed, paving the way for faster implementation of development initiatives nationwide.
According to President Muizzu, the Cabinet this week finalized discussions on the prioritization and implementation schedule of government projects to ensure their timely completion.
“When we combine projects already signed, those scheduled to be signed this year, and additional projects planned for next year to fulfill our pledges, the total reaches 2,645 projects,” he said.
The President explained that the projects have been organized under a comprehensive implementation framework designed to balance monthly completion targets, maintain healthy cash flow, and meet the government’s debt obligations in a systematic manner.
He noted that the structured approach will help ensure that development efforts continue without disrupting fiscal stability while delivering key infrastructure and public service projects across the country.
During his address, President Muizzu also spoke about the country’s political direction, stating that Maldivians are currently faced with two distinct choices for the nation’s future.
He described one path as being based on progress, stability, civilization, and constructive values rooted in national interests and Islamic principles. In contrast, he said the alternative path represents policies and ideologies that have previously contributed to instability and setbacks.
The President reiterated that the PNC’s vision is focused on strengthening Islam, safeguarding national security, maintaining stability, and delivering sustainable development for the Maldivian people.
His remarks come as the government continues to advance its nationwide development agenda, with several major infrastructure, housing, transport, and public service projects expected to move forward over the coming months.
