President sends best wishes to students sitting this year’s A-Level exams

By Hussain Shinan Published 3 hours ago

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has wished students across the Maldives success as they prepare to sit this year’s Higher Secondary Examinations, describing the A-Level stage as an important milestone in determining their academic and professional futures.

In a post on X , the President extended his best wishes to all Maldivian students sitting the examinations this year, as well as their families and schools supporting them through the examination period.

Muizzu highlighted the importance of the Higher Secondary Examination in shaping the choices students make after completing school, particularly when selecting a field for higher education and deciding on their future career paths.

The President expressed hope that the work students have put into preparing for the examinations would be rewarded with strong results.

He also offered prayers for students to find their examinations manageable and perform to the best of their abilities, expressing hope that their results would make their families, schools and the country proud.

The message comes as higher secondary students prepare for the October-November examination series.

According to the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Skills Development’s 2026 academic calendar, HSC examinations and Edexcel AS and A2 examinations for Grade 11 and 12 students are scheduled during the October-November period.

Students completed their school-level Grade 11 and 12 final examinations between August 23 and September 10, ahead of the external examination period.

A-Level results play an important role in determining access to higher education opportunities for Maldivian students, including eligibility for government scholarships.

Among these opportunities is the High Achievers Scholarship, which enables students with strong higher secondary results to pursue further education in approved fields and destinations.

Under the existing criteria, students can qualify for the scholarship by attaining A grades in three A-Level subjects or meeting equivalent academic requirements, alongside the stipulated requirements for Dhivehi and Islam.

The 2026 examination year has also seen changes aimed at expanding examination opportunities available to Maldivian students.

The Education Ministry resumed the Edexcel A-Level May/June examination series for private candidates this year after the session had not been available in the Maldives since 2019.

The ministry said private candidates who previously wanted to sit the May/June examinations had been required to travel abroad, resulting in significant travel and accommodation expenses.

School candidates continue to sit their A-Level examinations during the regular October-November examination session.

Muizzu has also recently addressed students preparing for major examinations, encouraging them to maintain a balance between their studies, physical activity and religious responsibilities.

In his latest message on X, the President wished students success in their examinations and expressed hope that their efforts would be reflected in their results.
