President Mohamed Muizzu has called for deeper economic collaboration between the Maldives and Sri Lanka, urging businesses from both nations to expand partnerships and investment flows.
Speaking at the Maldives–Sri Lanka Business Forum in Colombo, the President emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral ties through increased trade, joint ventures, and private sector engagement.
Muizzu noted that Sri Lanka remains a key partner for the Maldives due to its proximity, expertise, and long-standing presence in sectors such as tourism, construction, and services.
He invited Sri Lankan and international companies operating in Sri Lanka to explore opportunities in the Maldives, particularly in infrastructure development, sustainable tourism, digital transformation, and food security.
At the same time, the President stressed the importance of ensuring balanced economic relations, encouraging greater openness for Maldivian businesses seeking to expand into Sri Lanka.
“Two-way investment flows are essential for a sustainable and mutually beneficial partnership,” he said.
The President also highlighted the shared responsibility of both countries as Indian Ocean nations, pointing to the need for cooperation in areas such as maritime security, environmental sustainability, and climate resilience.
He said future partnerships must go beyond traditional trade, focusing instead on innovation, resilience, and long-term regional stability.
Muizzu described the business forum as a platform to transform ideas into actionable partnerships, urging stakeholders to work together to build a stronger, more connected, and prosperous future for both nations.
