Registrations for the 2026 Dhiraagu Malé Open Swimming Competition will close on 31 July, with organisers encouraging swimmers to secure their places before the deadline for what is expected to be the Maldives’ largest open water swimming event.
The competition, organised by Swim Maldives and sponsored by Dhiraagu, will be held on 21 and 22 August at Rasfannu in Malé. The event aims to promote open water swimming, encourage greater participation in the sport, and raise awareness about protecting the Maldives’ marine environment.
Participants can compete in 1 kilometre, 500 metre, and 250 metre race categories. This year’s edition will also introduce a new 500 metre Team Relay, allowing friends, families, and swimming clubs to compete together.
Interested participants can register online until 31 July, with organisers urging swimmers not to miss the opportunity to take part in one of the country’s most anticipated sporting events.
Last year’s Dhiraagu Malé Open attracted 350 swimmers from across the Maldives, with more than 340 participants successfully completing their races. Competitors ranged in age from 6 to 65 years, highlighting the event’s broad appeal and the growing popularity of open water swimming nationwide.
Dhiraagu said it remains committed to supporting initiatives that promote healthy lifestyles, strengthen community engagement, and create more opportunities for people across the Maldives to participate in sports and recreational activities.
