Thousands of supporters turned out for the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) as the party staged its final campaign march in Malé, with large crowds filling much of Majeedhee Magu, the capital’s main thoroughfare.
The rally, held to conclude the party’s election campaign, drew participation from senior government officials, cabinet ministers, Members of Parliament, and a significant number of party supporters. Observers described the turnout as one of the largest seen in recent campaign events, with sections of the road packed with marchers throughout the procession.
Participants moved through the city chanting slogans and calling for public support for PNC candidates contesting in the upcoming Local Council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections, scheduled for tomorrow.

In addition to campaigning for council candidates, the march also highlighted the upcoming national referendum, with participants urging voters to support the proposal to hold Presidential and Parliamentary elections on the same day in the future.

The event marked the culmination of a two-month nationwide campaign by the ruling party, during which candidates and party leaders engaged with voters across the country.
With campaigning now drawing to a close, attention shifts to polling day, as voters prepare to cast ballots in what is expected to be a significant moment in the country’s political calendar.
