The Privatisation and Corporatisation Board (PCB) has appointed Hussain Fahmee as the Managing Director of the Malé Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC), confirming his immediate transition from a role at the President’s Office to lead one of the country’s key utility providers.
The board announced that Fahmee will serve as both Managing Director and a member of the company’s board, with the appointment taking effect from today.
Fahmee brings over 27 years of experience in the utilities sector, having built his career at the State Electric Company (STELCO). He joined the company in 1988 as a trainee and rose through the ranks to hold senior leadership roles, including General Manager, contributing to major operational and infrastructure developments.
In November last year, he was appointed Managing Director of STELCO, becoming one of the longest-serving employees to lead the company.
Following his tenure at STELCO, Fahmee was appointed to the President’s Office, where he served up until today before being reassigned to head MWSC, marking a direct transition within the government’s senior leadership framework.
Academically, Fahmee is understood to have a background aligned with engineering and utility management, supporting his decades of hands-on experience in power systems, infrastructure planning, and public service delivery.
His appointment to Malé Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) signals continued reliance on experienced leadership within state-owned enterprises, particularly in sectors critical to national infrastructure and urban development.
