Rising bodyboarding talent Zoha Ali has emerged as one of the standout performers of the season, claiming first place in the newly introduced Junior Women’s Division at the Burunu Shikaaru Bodyboarding Challenge 2026.
The event marked the opening competition of this year’s Maldives Bodyboarding League, with Zoha delivering a dominant performance throughout the heats before securing the title with a final score of 11.74.
A Breakthrough Moment
Zoha, the daughter of former national champion Azly, impressed judges with her consistency and control, quickly establishing herself as a promising new name in the sport.
Speaking after her victory, she credited her success to the support of her family, coach Ali Khushruwan and fellow athletes, noting that encouragement from those around her played a key role in her performance.
She also acknowledged the support of the Bodyboarding Association, particularly as she competed in the league for the first time.
Eyes on the National Team
With her first major title secured, Zoha said her next goal is to earn a place in the Maldives’ first-ever women’s national bodyboarding team, expected to be formed later this year.
She also expressed her ambition to represent the country at international competitions, highlighting the growing opportunities now available for female athletes in the sport.
Zoha added that the introduction of a dedicated division for young women marks an important step forward for the local surfing and bodyboarding community.
