Air India has officially started operating from Velana International Airport’s newly opened Terminal 1, further strengthening air connectivity between the Maldives and India.
A ceremony was held at the terminal to mark the milestone, attended by Indian Ambassador to the Maldives G. B. Balasubramanian, Air India’s Airport Manager Jaindar Singh Rana, and senior officials of Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL).
During the event, Air India’s check-in counters at Terminal 1 were inaugurated, with gifts presented to 118 passengers departing on the first flight. The 132 passengers arriving on flight AI2239 were welcomed with traditional Maldivian cultural performances.
Air India first began flights to the Maldives on 21 February 1976. With the addition of Air India, the number of airlines operating from Terminal 1 has now reached 18. MACL stated that its goal is to ensure the highest quality of service and efficiency for all airlines and passengers using the new terminal.
