The ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) has announced that candidate registrations for its primary elections—held to determine party tickets for the upcoming Local Council Elections and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections—will open tomorrow.
Party officials shared the announcement during a press briefing held at PNC headquarters this afternoon. The event was attended by PNC Parliamentary Group Leader and Campaign Manager for the upcoming elections, MP Ibrahim Falah.
According to Falah, the window for aspiring candidates to submit their applications will run from December 1 to December 15. Members who wish to contest may lodge their forms through the party’s official website.
Falah expressed confidence that this year’s primary would attract unprecedented participation. “We believe this will be the biggest primary ever conducted in the Maldives. Many of our members have already shown strong interest,” he said.
He also made clear that the party will not issue tickets outside the primary process, emphasising transparency and fairness. “No one will receive a party ticket without contesting. Every step of the primary will be conducted in an open and accountable manner,” he added.
The PNC primary vote is scheduled for January 27, while the national Local Council Elections and WDC elections are set to take place on March 28 next year.
