President Muizzu Met With Taxi Drivers, Pledging Support and Order

By Ahmed Ashraf Published December 23, 2025

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on Tuesday held direct talks with members of the Taxi Drivers’ Association, reaffirming the Government’s commitment to reforming urban transport and easing congestion in Malé City.

The meeting at the President’s Office focused on long-standing challenges faced by taxi drivers, including vehicle registration, parking arrangements, and traffic bottlenecks in the capital. Association representatives presented practical proposals to improve the current system, comparing them with inefficiencies under previous arrangements.

Taxi drivers also shared views on the Government’s planned taxi service initiative, stressing the need for orderly regulation and fair implementation. Central to the discussion was the urgent requirement for a comprehensive, modern registry for taxi drivers, aimed at improving accountability, service standards, and operational efficiency.

President Muizzu underscored that a reliable and up-to-date registry is essential for transforming taxi services and managing traffic flow in Malé. He outlined plans to introduce additional facilities and support mechanisms for drivers, positioning them as key partners in the broader urban mobility strategy.

The President assured the Association that the Government will work closely with taxi drivers and relevant authorities to implement solutions raised during the meeting, signalling a collaborative approach to tackling congestion and modernising public transport services in the capital.
