Maldivian nationals living in the United Arab Emirates have been urged to take urgent safety precautions after Iran launched ballistic missiles targeting the UAE and other Gulf countries in retaliation for joint military strikes by the United States and Israel against Iran.
According to official reports, the UAE successfully intercepted several Iranian missiles aimed at its territory using air defence systems, but debris from the interceptions caused material damage and the death of one civilian in Abu Dhabi. Explosions were also heard in Dubai and other Gulf cities as sirens sounded and residents were urged to shelter indoors.
In response to the escalating regional situation, Maldivian Ambassador to the UAE, Mohamed Hussain Shareef (commonly known as Ambassador Mundhu), shared a safety advisory via community messaging channels. He highlighted reports of ongoing aerial attacks across the region, advised citizens to avoid non-essential travel and remain inside secure buildings, and emphasised that the mission is available to assist anyone in need of urgent support.
The worsening security environment follows coordinated military operations by the United States and Israel against Iranian targets earlier this weekend, which prompted Iran’s missiles to be fired at multiple Gulf states that host U.S. military assets, including the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan.
The UAE Ministry of Defence condemned the missile attacks as a blatant violation of national sovereignty and international law, reaffirming its readiness to defend its territory and urging the public to rely on verified official information as the situation evolves.
While the wider conflict continues to unfold with significant implications for regional stability and international security, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives has not yet issued an official statement on the crisis. According to ministry records, approximately 300 Maldivians are currently residing in the UAE.
