President Meets Families in North Galolhu as Campaign Continues

By Hussain Shinan Published 6 hours ago

President Mohamed Muizzu met with residents of the North Galolhu constituency today as part of an ongoing door-to-door campaign ahead of the upcoming Malé City Council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections.

The visit forms part of the second round of campaign activities by the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC), during which the President has been engaging directly with households across the capital. During his time in North Galolhu, he spent extended periods speaking with residents, listening to concerns and discussing challenges faced by the community.

The initiative builds on a series of similar visits carried out during the month of Ramadan, when the President travelled across multiple constituencies in Malé to meet residents and assess their needs. According to officials, he had visited 17 constituencies before the end of Ramadan, checking on the wellbeing of families and interacting with members of the public.

The second phase of the campaign resumed ahead of the Eid holidays, with the President continuing house visits and informal interactions with residents on the streets as part of efforts to strengthen engagement at the grassroots level.

The outreach is part of a broader campaign by the PNC to mobilise support for its candidates contesting in the local elections. Party officials have projected strong performance in the polls, estimating that the party could secure between 800 and 900 seats nationwide.

The Elections Commission has scheduled the Local Council and WDC elections for April 4, with campaigning intensifying across Malé and other regions in the lead-up to voting day.

The President’s continued engagement with residents reflects a campaign strategy focused on direct interaction with voters, as political parties step up efforts to secure support in key constituencies.
