The Bank of Maldives (BML) has expanded its nationwide footprint with the inauguration of six new branches, reinforcing efforts to enhance customer proximity and service delivery across the islands.
The new branches were officially opened by President Mohamed Muizzu at a ceremony attended by BML Chairperson Ahmed Ali Habeeb, CEO and Managing Director Mohamed Shareef, and senior bank officials.
Newly opened BML branches:
- HDh. Hanimaadhoo
- AA. Thoddoo
- Th. Vilufushi
- S. Hulhudhoo
- Th. Hirilandhoo
- HDh. Kulhudhuffushi
Among the new locations, the Kulhudhuffushi branch will operate as a dedicated Business Center, designed to support small and medium enterprises and boost local economic activity.
All six branches will begin operations from tomorrow, offering a range of services aimed at improving accessibility for communities across the atolls.
Speaking at the ceremony, CEO Mohamed Shareef underscored the bank’s commitment to maintaining close, personalized relationships with customers despite rapid digital transformation. He noted that staff will actively engage beyond branch offices, visiting households and businesses, and traveling to nearby islands to promote banking services, financial literacy, and scam awareness.
The branch expansion comes alongside BML’s broader nationwide rollout of ATM services, including the recent launch of 90 new ATMs, comprising 70 US dollar and 20 Maldivian Rufiyaa machines. The combined initiatives signal a significant push to strengthen both physical and digital banking access, ensuring customers across the Maldives benefit from greater convenience, accessibility, and financial inclusion.
