The Government of the Maldives has officially declared June 24 and 25 as additional public holidays, extending the upcoming Eid al-Adha break to a full week.
The decision was made under the directive of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, according to the President’s Office.
In a statement, the President’s Office said the additional holidays were granted to allow citizens more time to celebrate Eid and spend time with their families during the festive period.
This year’s Day of Arafah, observed ahead of Eid al-Adha, falls on June 26, while the official Eid holidays are scheduled from June 27 to 30.
The President’s Office also confirmed that government offices will resume operations following the conclusion of the Eid holidays.
The extended holiday period is expected to lead to increased domestic travel and family gatherings across the Maldives during one of the most significant religious celebrations in the Islamic calendar.
