Protest Erupts: Taxi Drivers Block Hulhumale-Malé Highway, Key Organizers Detained

In a continuation of the ongoing protest against the government, taxi drivers have parked their vehicles on Hulhumale Halimagu (Highway), causing a traffic obstruction. This evening, taxi drivers in the Male’ region organized a peaceful protest, asserting that their grievances are being ignored by the government. The protest took place at Hulhumale’ Ruhgandu Park 1, where numerous taxi drivers gathered to voice their concerns.

Following the Isha prayer tonight, the drivers moved their cars and stationed them at the intersection of the highway and Hulhumale’, effectively blocking traffic. According to a Local News reporter on site, a significant number of vehicles were parked as part of the demonstration, with police presence noted in the vicinity.

The journalist observed that two or three individuals were taken into custody by police officers from the area. As of now, no official statement has been issued by the police regarding this incident.
