The Maldives and India convened the first meeting of the High-Level Core Group (HLCG) in Malé yesterday, focusing on implementing the “Vision for Comprehensive Economic and Maritime Security Partnership.”
The meeting, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Maldives, reviewed the progress of bilateral cooperation between the two nations. Discussions centered on key areas outlined in the vision document formulated by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi following their meeting in October last year.
According to the Foreign Ministry, the meeting covered a broad range of issues, including:
- Development cooperation
- Trade and commerce
- Digital financing
- Health cooperation
- People-to-people linkages
- Defence and maritime security cooperation
The discussions aimed at strengthening economic ties and maritime security between the two nations, which have historically shared close diplomatic relations.
The second meeting of the High-Level Core Group is scheduled to be held in India in April 2025, where both sides are expected to continue refining their strategies for enhanced bilateral cooperation.
