A Towering Symbol of Friendship: India Builds Tallest Precast Span for Greater Male Connectivity Project

In a landmark event on April 3, 2025, Afcons Infrastructure erected the tallest precast navigation span segment globally for the Greater Male Connectivity Project (GMCP). This monumental segment stands at 8.23 meters in height, spans 25.37 meters in width, and weighs an impressive 216.04 metric tons, exemplifying the zenith of engineering prowess.

A Day of Special Achievement

The GMCP, heralded as the Maldives’ most ambitious infrastructure endeavor, aims to seamlessly connect the capital city of Male with the islands of Villingili, Gulhifalhu, and Thilafushi. This 6.74-kilometer bridge and causeway network is poised to revolutionize transportation and stimulate economic growth in the region.

Funded through a generous grant of USD 100 million and a concessional credit line of USD 400 million from India, the project underscores the robust partnership between India and the Maldives. The successful erection of this precast segment not only signifies a leap in infrastructural development but also cements the collaborative spirit and mutual commitment of both nations towards progress and prosperity.
