In a landmark recognition of his visionary leadership, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Islamic Leadership and Madani Development by the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). The conferment ceremony, held at IIUM’s main campus, was graced by Her Royal Highness Tengku Ampuan Pahang Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, the university’s Constitutional Head.
This prestigious accolade marks the first time a Maldivian leader has received such an honour from IIUM, underscoring President Muizzu’s commitment to integrating Islamic principles with modern governance. During the ceremony, President Muizzu delivered a compelling lecture titled “The Intellectual Renaissance: Unveiling the Scientific and Modern Developments of Islamic Civilisation,” highlighting the pivotal role of Islamic thought in contemporary development.
President Muizzu’s official visit to Malaysia also included high-level discussions with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, focusing on strengthening bilateral ties in trade, education, and tourism. The visit culminated in the signing of multiple Memoranda of Understanding, paving the way for enhanced cooperation between the two nations.
The conferment of this honorary doctorate not only celebrates President Muizzu’s achievements but also signifies a deepening relationship between the Maldives and Malaysia, rooted in shared values and mutual respect.
