Dhiraagu Expands Support to Maldives’ Blind and Visually Impaired Society

By Ahmed Ashraf Published July 1, 2025

Dhiraagu has reinforced its commitment to social empowerment by partnering with the Blind and Visually Impaired Society of Maldives (BVISM) to host a series of community-focused events across Shaviyani Atoll. This initiative, part of Dhiraagu’s broader Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, aims to promote inclusion and raise awareness about the rights and needs of the blind and visually impaired community in the Maldives.

BVISM, a leading non-governmental organization advocating for the visually impaired, will conduct sensitization sessions in Kanditheemu, Milandhoo, Funadhoo, and Komandoo. With the active support of local councils, these sessions are designed to educate residents, foster inclusivity, and encourage greater community acceptance.

In addition to supporting these on-ground efforts, Dhiraagu continues to offer in-kind assistance to BVISM through its dedicated Phone Meeting service. This unique platform allows BVISM members to connect via free calls within the Dhiraagu network, enabling seamless communication and strengthening community bonds. The service has become an indispensable tool for BVISM, facilitating regular organizational meetings and providing a practical alternative when physical gatherings pose accessibility challenges.

Beyond administrative use, the Phone Meeting service plays a vital role in enhancing social interaction among members, creating a sense of belonging, and supporting peer learning. It also serves as a critical platform for remote training and awareness sessions, contributing to knowledge sharing and capacity building within the community.

This initiative underscores Dhiraagu’s long-standing dedication to empowering vulnerable groups and promoting social inclusion. The telecom giant remains focused on delivering targeted programs that support children, uplift young people, and enhance the lives of marginalized communities across the country.

Through these sustained efforts, Dhiraagu continues to set a benchmark for corporate citizenship in the Maldives, reaffirming its vision of a connected and inclusive society.
