STELCO’s Final Smart Meter Installations and New App Underway Nationwide with President Muizzu’s Endorsement

By Ahmed Ashraf Published July 9, 2025

(STELCO) is on the brink of completing a landmark transformation in its electricity services, with final preparations underway to install smart meters in the last remaining areas across the Maldives. The ambitious rollout, expected to conclude by the end of September, will ensure that every STELCO customer is equipped with a smart meter—ushering in a new era of transparency, efficiency, and digital engagement.

This large-scale upgrade is complemented by the introduction of a new smart application, designed to give customers unprecedented insight and control over their electricity consumption. Through the app, users will be able to monitor real-time usage data by the hour, day, and week, empowering them to make informed decisions that support energy conservation and reduce costs. In addition to detailed consumption tracking, the app allows customers to settle multiple bills in a single transaction and connect directly with customer service representatives via the integrated STELCO Care platform.

For STELCO, the move represents more than just a technological upgrade; it is a strategic commitment to strengthening public trust and modernising national infrastructure. The adoption of smart meters aligns with global trends toward smarter, more sustainable energy systems, enabling better demand management and operational efficiency.

Central to this progress has been the steadfast support from the government and President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. His administration’s robust backing has played a critical role in accelerating the company’s transition toward a fully digitised and customer-centric service model.

STELCO’s leadership has emphasised that embracing modern technology is essential for maintaining reliability and delivering comprehensive, future-ready services. As the company edges closer to 100% smart meter coverage, it is positioning itself—and the Maldives—as a regional leader in advanced utility services.

Once the final phase is completed, customers across the country can look forward to greater transparency, more control over their electricity usage, and a stronger partnership with the national power provider. STELCO’s journey marks a significant step forward in the Maldives’ ongoing efforts to embrace innovation and sustainable development.
