In Kendhoo, President Muizzu Calls on Councils to Put Community Above Politics

By Ahmed Ashraf Published August 11, 2025

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has declared that decentralised service delivery will remain a defining pillar of his administration, stressing that genuine progress can only be achieved through direct engagement with the people.

Addressing residents of Kendhoo during his ongoing four-day tour of Baa Atoll’s inhabited islands, President Muizzu underscored that state and development projects must be implemented in close collaboration with the public, with community needs guiding every decision. He emphasised that this hands-on approach — involving the President, Cabinet members, and institutional leaders — is essential for effective governance.

Calling for sincerity and unity in municipal leadership, President Muizzu urged local councils to set aside political differences and work alongside the government in the best interests of their communitie. He also noted recent legal reforms barring council-owned companies from engaging in small and micro businesses, a move aimed at safeguarding private entrepreneurs and ensuring fair competition.

Reaffirming his commitment to Kendhoo’s future, the President pledged to deliver on his 10 campaign promises for the island, alongside additional projects. He announced major developments including a land reclamation initiative, harbour upgrade, and coastal protection works. The visit also marked the official inauguration of Kendhoo’s water and sewerage services.

President Muizzu’s Kendhoo visit forms part of his broader tour of 13 inhabited islands across Baa Atoll, accompanied by ministers and senior government officials, reinforcing his administration’s people-first approach to national development.
