A comprehensive biography detailing the life of Qasim Ibrahim, a prominent Maldivian entrepreneur and political figure, was officially released last night at Villa College. The event was graced by Chief Guest Ilyas Ibrahim, who holds the esteemed title of Nishaan Izzuddeen.
Qasim Ibrahim, born on August 30, 1951, in Maamingili, Alif Dhaal Atoll, is renowned for founding the Villa Group, one of the Maldives’ largest conglomerates. His journey from humble beginnings to becoming a business magnate and influential politician is meticulously chronicled in this new publication.
The biography, penned by seasoned journalist and author Mohamed Jameel, marks his third literary work. Jameel’s previous publications include ‘Orchid,’ which delves into the pivotal events surrounding the tenure of the Maldives’ first President, Mohamed Ameen Didi, and ‘Insaaf,’ the life story of former President Dr. Mohamed Waheed.
The launch ceremony was attended by distinguished guests, including former Presidents Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and Dr. Mohamed Waheed, current government ministers, members of the People’s Majlis, and members of Qasim’s family.
In addition to the hardcover edition, an audiobook and a dedicated website were introduced to provide diverse platforms for readers and listeners to engage with Qasim’s story. An exhibition showcasing rare photographs from various periods of his life was also inaugurated and will be open to the public today from 9:00 AM to 10:30 PM. Visitors to the exhibition will receive a complimentary copy of the book.

It features color photographs, many of which are being made public for the first time, providing readers with a visual journey through his life.
