Aasandha Expands Healthcare Coverage to UAE and Thailand

By The Standard Published December 10, 2024

In a significant step towards improving healthcare access for Maldivians, the national health insurance provider, Aasandha, has announced new agreements with leading hospitals in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Thailand.

The agreements, signed by Aasandha’s Managing Director Aminath Zeeniya, include partnerships with Burjeel Medical City in the UAE, as well as World Medical Hospital and Bangkok Hospital in Thailand. This marks a substantial expansion of Aasandha’s coverage, which until now was limited to selected hospitals in India and Sri Lanka.

The new partnerships align with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s commitment to enhancing healthcare services for Maldivians. Under this initiative, patients will begin to receive referrals to the newly covered hospitals starting January 15, 2025.

Aasandha stated that these efforts are part of broader reforms aimed at modernizing the health insurance system and broadening its scope. Recent changes have also included the addition of services and treatments previously excluded from the scheme.

The government continues to explore opportunities to extend Aasandha coverage to more countries, ensuring Maldivians have access to quality healthcare regardless of geographical barriers. These developments signify a crucial leap forward in the nation’s healthcare accessibility.
