A widespread power outage has impacted the Greater Malé region, leading to disruptions in ATM and Point-of-Sale (POS) services. Despite these challenges, the Bank of Maldives (BML) has confirmed that its primary banking services remain fully operational.

In a statement shared by BML acknowledged the service interruptions, stating, “We are experiencing a service downtime for all Favara services due to the current power outage in the Greater Malé area.” The bank further assured customers that, aside from areas affected by the power outage, banking services continue without interruption.

The Greater Malé region, encompassing the capital city and its surrounding areas, is experiencing significant disruptions due to the power outage. This has affected various services, including banking operations that rely on electricity, such as ATMs and POS terminals.

BML has advised customers in the affected areas to utilize internet and mobile banking platforms for their transactions. These digital services remain accessible and can facilitate most banking needs during this period.

The bank is actively monitoring the situation and is working closely with relevant authorities to restore full services as soon as possible. Customers are encouraged to stay updated through BML’s official website and social media channels for the latest information.

This incident underscores the importance of digital banking infrastructure in ensuring service continuity during unforeseen disruptions. BML’s commitment to maintaining core banking operations highlights its resilience and dedication to customer service amidst challenging circumstances.
