BML unveils new leadership structure to drive future growth

By Ahmed Ashraf Published 2 hours ago

Bank of Maldives (BML) has unveiled a new organisational structure aimed at strengthening accountability, improving the customer experience, and supporting the bank’s long-term strategy for sustainable growth.

The restructuring, which takes effect from August 4, 2026, was approved by the Bank’s Board of Directors. According to BML, the changes are intended to streamline decision-making, foster stronger customer relationships, and further elevate service standards across the organisation.

As part of the new structure, four members of the executive leadership team have assumed adjacent roles for an initial six-month period as part of a leadership development initiative:

  • Rashfa Jaufar, Chief Risk Officer
  • Gary Laughton, Chief Credit Officer

BML CEO and Managing Director Mohamed Shareef said the restructuring is designed to position the bank for its next phase of growth while strengthening leadership capabilities.

“These changes are about growth. The Bank is in a strong position, and we’re organising ourselves to serve customers better and grow faster. The temporary rotation of executive roles is a deliberate investment in leadership depth, giving experienced leaders direct exposure to an adjacent discipline strengthens both the individual and the institution. It reflects our confidence in this team and our ongoing commitment to developing Maldivian leadership at every level,” Shareef said.

The bank stated that the leadership rotation will provide executives with broader operational experience while reinforcing succession planning and organisational resilience.

BML also confirmed that the restructuring is an internal organisational change and will not affect customers’ accounts, banking products, services, or existing points of contact.

The bank said the revised structure reflects its continued investment in people, leadership, and institutional capabilities as it seeks to deliver sustainable growth while raising service standards for customers across the Maldives.
