A 14-year-old boy who suffered severe injuries after being electrocuted in Gan has been transferred to Malé for emergency treatment and is currently on a ventilator in intensive care.
According to the Maldives Police Service, authorities received reports of the incident shortly after 11:00 PM last night.
The child was initially treated at Gan Regional Hospital before being airlifted to Malé early this morning as his condition deteriorated.
Doctors at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) confirmed that the boy remains in serious condition and is currently receiving treatment in the ICU while on ventilator support.
Preliminary information indicates that the incident occurred while electricity was being arranged for Eid celebrations on the island. Reports suggest the child was attempting to connect an extension board to a roadside power distribution box when he received the electric shock.
Witnesses said the boy lost consciousness immediately after the incident and collapsed at the scene.
Police have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the electrocution.
