Club WAMCO have been crowned champions of the Volleyball Association of Maldives (VAM) Association Cup for the second time after defeating Club MTCC 3-1 in the women’s final.
WAMCO, who previously won the Association Cup in 2021, continued an impressive period of success in Maldivian women’s volleyball. The club has won championship honours for six consecutive years and has also claimed the National Tournament title in each of the past four years, establishing itself as the dominant women’s team of the period.
WAMCO made a strong start to the final, taking advantage of MTCC’s difficulties in defence and reception to secure the opening set 25-20.
MTCC responded strongly in the second set. Improved receiving and fewer errors allowed the team to build a six-point advantage midway through the set. MTCC maintained the pressure and eventually levelled the match with a 25-20 victory.
The setback proved temporary for WAMCO. Drawing on the experience of their squad, they took control of the third set and overwhelmed MTCC 25-13.
WAMCO maintained their momentum in the fourth, securing a 25-18 victory to complete the 3-1 win and lift the Association Cup.
The champions finished the tournament undefeated. WAMCO had also beaten MTCC during the group stage and dropped just one set throughout the entire competition, the second set of the final.
WAMCO setter Juzan Zareer was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, while the club’s Ahmed Adeel, known as Bebe, received the Best Coach award.
WAMCO were also strongly represented in the tournament’s Dream Team. Juzan was selected alongside teammates Aishath Majida, known as Maji, and Nareema Idrees, known as Nanni.
MTCC’s Maaya Hussain Solah also earned a Dream Team selection, while Huraa Community Club’s Manaal Ismail Rasheed, selected as libero, and Fathimath Liwa Hussain completed the lineup.
The latest triumph adds another title to WAMCO’s sustained run at the top of Maldivian women’s volleyball and reinforces the club’s position as one of the country’s most successful teams in recent years.
