The police have launched a full-scale operation targeting illegal parking on Majeedhee Magu, the capital’s busiest thoroughfare. In a dramatic enforcement move last evening, dozens of vehicles were hauled away, and motorists have been warned: vehicles will be released only after a two-day impound period.
In an official statement, police confirmed the new towing protocol specifically aims to unclog traffic and ensure smoother public transport flow. “Drivers parking on the main street and obstructing buses or general traffic will face action,” police stated, stressing that recovered vehicles could only be reclaimed after 48 hours.
During yesterday’s sweep, officers removed 42 vehicles—37 motorcycles and five cars—parked in violation, according to police reports. Motorists are strongly urged to use designated parking zones to avoid disruptions.
The police expressed gratitude for public support in their road safety campaign. Officials said the effort reflects a broader commitment to maintaining order on Male’s crowded streets.
