Cross-Dressed Crime: Malé Police Foil Store Heist, Arrest Two

By Ahmed Ashraf Published February 16, 2025

In the early hours of Sunday, Malé police apprehended two men attempting to rob a store on Maaveyo Magu while disguised in women’s clothing. The suspects, identified as Mohamed Sabah, 46, from GDh. Vaadhoo, and Mohamed Naushad, 42, from N. Milandhoo, were taken into custody around 2:39 AM.

A police media official confirmed the arrests, stating, “These individuals were wearing women’s clothing when they were taken into police custody.” Following their arrest, both men were presented in court and have been remanded for 15 days as investigations continue.

This incident adds to a series of thefts in the area. Notably, four months ago, three individuals were arrested for breaking into a shop on Maaveyo Magu, where they vandalized the premises and stole money and cigarettes. In that case, the suspects were identified as Ibrahim Mohamed Rasheed, 34, from R. Inguraidhoo; Mohamed Sabaah, 46, from GDh. Vaadhoo; and Ihusan Ibrahim from the same island. Ihusan was remanded for 30 days, while the other two received 15-day remands.
