Experienced state executive Lamaan steps into PNC deputy SG role

By Ahmed Ashraf Published 2 hours ago

Mohamed Lamaan has been appointed as Deputy Secretary-General of the ruling People’s National Congress, marking his formal entry into a key political leadership position following a series of high-profile roles in state-owned enterprises.

The appointment was confirmed via a post on the party’s official account on X on Tuesday afternoon.

Lamaan’s political elevation comes days after his transition within the state sector. He stepped down last week as Deputy Managing Director of Maldives Airports Company Limited and was subsequently appointed Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Maldives Ports Limited.

The rapid succession of appointments highlights Lamaan’s growing influence across both administrative and political spheres, positioning him as a key figure within the ruling party’s organisational structure.

Prior to his roles at MACL and MPL, Lamaan served as Managing Director of Fenaka Corporation during the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen, where he oversaw national utility operations.

His appointment to the PNC’s senior ranks signals a consolidation of experienced leadership within the party, as it continues to strengthen its internal structure ahead of upcoming political cycles.
